THE PRAYER OF JABEZ (Part I) TEXT: 1 CHRONICLES 4:10 - WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY, JULY 4, 2007.

TOPIC: THE PRAYER OF JABEZ (Part I)
TEXT: 1 CHRONICLES 4:10

Introduction: The topic for our Bible study this week is one that that has blessed the
believers all over the world. It is just a verse that is well loaded with many blessings for
our lives. This study will take you deeper into the prayer, wider into the blessings, and
farther than ever into expanding your ministry for God.

I. The Preview of the Jabez Blessing v.10

A. The Description of Jabez blessing

1. “Bless” means to bestow favour or kindness (Gen. 39: 3, 5b)

2. “Indeed” carries the meaning of greatly or intensely

B. The Distinctive of the Jabez Blessing

1. The Blessing is not impersonal but personal

2. The Blessing is not specific but general.

Notice a radical aspect of Jabez’s request for blessing. He left it entirely
up to God to decide what the blessings would be and where, when, and
how Jabez would receive them.

3. The Blessing of Jabez is not directed by man but God.
Instead, the Jabez blessing focuses like a laser on our wanting for
ourselves nothing more and nothing less than what God wants for us.

4. The Blessing is not meager but abundant

5. The Blessing is not a weak wish but a fervent desire
II. The Pitfall of Jabez Blessing. There are some Misconception about the

Jabez’s prayer:
1. It always works – just say the word!
The Prayer of Jabez is not Magic

2. I can’t pray Jabez- it’s not right to pray for my self!
The Prayer of Jabez is not selfish.

3. If you want to get rich, pray Jabez!
The Prayer of Jabez is not Name-it-and claim-it.
The kind of radical trust in God’s good intension toward us has nothing in
common with the popular gospel that you should ask God for a six-figure
income or some other material sign that you have found a way to cash in
on your connection with Him. You must work.
III. The Principles of the Jabez Blessing

A. The Jabez Blessing are all ultimate from God (James 1:16-17; 1 Chron.
29:11-12).

B. The Jabez Blessings are given because God loves to Give- John 3:16; Exod.
34:6; 2 Sam. 12:7b-8.

C. The Jabez Blessings are given to those who ask (Matt.7:7-11).
